The merger of the buying groups Landmark and Today’s Wholesale Services was ratified on 31st October. Unitas will become the UK’s largest food & drink buying group with membership of around 180 independent wholesalers.

The I newspaper is reporting that rose wine is on course to be a big Christmas seller this year. Majestic Wine is forecasting that rose wine will exceed all sales targets this autumn and winter. The success is being partly credited to the “Instagram factor” with people sharing warm climate holiday snaps.
Good news in the budget for small independent stores
Chancellor Philip Hammond announced an extension to rate relief for stores whose rateable value is up to £51,000. He says that this will cut the rates bills by a third for around 90% of small independent stores saving them about £8,000 a year.

Convenience Store online reports that convenience stores and supermarkets have continued to grow their share of the out-of-home eating market according to new research from MCA Highlights. Their share of the breakfast occasion has increased from 5% to 6% and lunch visits have increased from 9.5% to 10.6%

Convenience Store online reports that the UK online grocery market is predicted to grow from 6% to 7.9% over the next five years according to new IGD figures. The market size will grow from £11.3bn to £17.2bn in 2023.
